A baby’s first Christmas is magicical. You get to enjoy all those special firsts, first Christmas tree, first time seeing Santa and yes, their very first Christmas dinner. Believe it or not, babies as young as six months can join in the festive food too.
In this post, we’re sharing ten weaning-friendly Christmas dinner ideas that are perfect for little tummies.

Savoury
1. Mashed or minced turkey
Babies from six months can enjoy turkey, just make sure it’s soft and easy to manage, think mashed or finely minced. It’s packed with protein, iron and zinc, which are brilliant for growing bodies, according to the NHS.
2. Mashed or roasted chopped potatoes
Potatoes are a Christmas dinner staple and perfect for weaning. You can mash them, blend them or roast and cut them into baby-sized wedges for finger food fun. They’re a great energy booster too, thanks to their lovely starchy goodness.
3. Boiled cabbage
Introducing your baby to a wide variety of veg, even the bitter tasting ones, is a great way to develop their tastebuds. Cabbage is one of those NHS approved veggies from six months, so pop it in a pan and boil it until it’s soft and baby ready.
4. Mashed or roasted swede and carrots
Swede and carrots are slightly sweeter vegetables that babies tend to love. Just boil and mash to suit your baby’s age and texture needs. Carrots bring fibre, vitamin A and vitamin K to the party, while swede adds vitamins A, C and B6.
5. Chopped boiled sprouts
Sprouts can be a bit love or hate type of food, but they’re full of vitamin C and folate, which are brilliant for your baby’s development. They’ve got a strong flavour, so don’t worry if your baby needs a few goes before they’re a fan. Just boil until soft and chop small before serving.
6. Mushed peas
Peas are a weaning winner. They’re rich in protein, fibre and carbs, all the good stuff. If your baby’s just starting out with weaning, mash or puree them first. They’ll love the colour and texture but beware a bib is very much required.
Sweet
7. Soft apples with a sprinkle of cinnamon
For a festive pudding, soft cooked apples are a great choice. They’re full of antioxidants plus vitamins A and C to help support your baby’s immune system. Just cook until soft and sprinkle a little cinnamon on top for a seasonal twist.
8. Baby oatmeal with fruit and cinnamon
If your baby’s a fan of porridge in the mornings, try serving it as a Christmassy dessert. Add some finely chopped fruit like raspberries or blueberries and a dash of cinnamon for a warm, wintery flavour.
9. Fruit purees
Simple and sweet, fruit purees are perfect for babies just starting on solids. Pick a favourite fruit like banana, mango or strawberry and blend it smooth. Serve it up on its own or as a topping on yoghurt.
10. Puff pastry with cream cheese
Fancy something a little different? Try puff pastry pinwheels with cream cheese in the middle. Great for the whole family, just skip the sugar as babies don’t need it and it can cause tooth decay.
