Essentials checklist for a summer day out with a baby

As the UK weather is starting to heat up, you might be planning some adventures out and about with your baby. Whether it’s a trip to the park, a day at the beach or just a stroll through town, leaving the house with a baby can sometimes feel like you need to pack for a mini holiday.

To take the stress out of getting out the door, we’ve put together a checklist of all the essentials you’ll need for a smooth and sunny day out. So, you can focus more on making memories and less on "Did we pack the nappies?

Essentials for your baby

Let’s start with the VIP… your baby. Here’s what to pack to keep them comfy, fed and safe from the sun.

  • Nappies and wipes - It goes without saying but always pack more than you think you’ll need. We’ll leave why to the imagination…
  • Spare baby grows and clothes - We all know how many times we end up changing our baby a day, that doesn’t change when we leave the house.
  • An extra layer - Like a cardigan or jumper. Even on warmer days it’s best to be prepared for when the sun hides behind clouds.
  • Formula and your RapidCool - If you’re formula feeding, don’t forget your trusty RapidCool to cool bottles in just 2 minutes*.
  • Sun hat - A wide brim or one with neck protection is best to keep them safe from the sun.
  • Baby friendly sun cream - If your baby is six months or older, don’t leave home without it.
  • Snacks - No one wants to be out and about with a hangry baby in tow.
  • Water and a cup or beaker - Again, if your baby is six months+, don’t forget to give them sips of water on hot days.
  • Dummy - If your baby uses a dummy, don’t risk facing the day without it. Trust us, it’s not worth the drama. Pack a spare (or two), just in case one goes missing on a wild pram ride.
  • Teether - Teething and day trips don’t always mix, so come prepared. We love our Wrist Pal Silicone Teething Mitt it’s soft, soothing and best of all, it stays put.
  • Baby carrier - If you want your hands free, a baby carrier can be an absolute game changer. Our 3-in-1 Baby Carrier is supportive from one week to 18 months.

Essentials for the pram

Your pram is where all of your essentials will be stored but there are a few extras you can add to make it even more practical.

  • Pram organiser - Keep nappies, wipes, snacks and other must-haves in here so you’re not hunting around your changing bag for it.
  • Pram cup and phone holder - Because juggling coffee, a phone and a pram never ends well.
  • Pram hook - Ours can carry changing bags, shopping bags and all the extra bits and bobs you’ll inevitably have.
  • Baby changing bag - Make sure it’s packed with all your baby bits from above.
  • Portable fan - Our bladeless fan clips easily onto the pram and keeps your baby cool.
  • Rain cover - We all know the UK weather likes to keep us guessing.
  • Pram rocker - Don’t know what a pram rocker is? Get to know. Our Jitterbug Pram Rocker gently rocks your baby to sleep in their pram.

Essentials for the car

If your day out is going to involve hopping in the car, don’t forget these baby car travel extras.

  • Car window shades - Our sock shades block out 90% of UVA/B rays.
  • Baby car mirror - So you can always have eyes on your baby when you drive.
  • Car seat organiser - Great for stashing toys, snacks, wipes and even a tablet for slightly older passengers.
  • Pram spiral toy - Like our Animal Adventures Pram Spiral, it wraps around the car seat handle and keeps little hands busy and entertained.
